Brasil, um mosaico cultural

Em tempos como o nosso, de intensas relações sócio-culturais entre os povos, muitas vezes a imagem que temos um do outro é constituída por estereótipos, limitada pela grande mídia ou por idéias simplificadoras, superficiais.

Tendo isso em conta, estudantes e docentes que compõem o projeto - iniciado com o Programa de Licenciaturas Internacionais cujo intuito é a dinâmica da troca entre universidades brasileiras e a Universidade de Coimbra – perceberam a importância da existência de intercâmbio não apenas no nível acadêmico, mas também nos níveis social e cultural.

Surge então A Semana Cultural Brasileira, um projeto interdisciplinar, visando expor e clarificar, através de diferentes esferas acadêmicas: graduação, pós-graduação e docentes, a complexidade cultural brasileira e algumas de suas manifestações sociais e artísticas.

Trabalhos que abordam a temática cultural brasileira serão apresentados ao longo da semana, assim como exposições livres e eventos, articulando o âmbito acadêmico e a sociedade civil.

Afinal, o que é ser brasileiro, quem são os brasileiros?

Não se reconhece os brasileiros pelo rosto de sua gente, mas por sua diversidade na formação social e renovação cultural. Não pelo que trazem em seus traços físicos, mas pelos variados costumes, por suas expressões culturais. Não há definições homogêneas.

Falar do Brasil é falar no plural.

É por se tratar, portanto, de um país continental, possuidor de traços especialmente característicos em cada região é que A Semana Cultural Brasileira, através dos alunos do PLI, juntamente com alunos brasileiros de pós-graduação e docentes, - todos de diferentes regiões e universidades - vêm mostrar a rica variedade desse grande mosaico cultural que é o Brasil.

Cultural mosaic: Brazil

In times like ours, of intense socio-cultural relations between nations the representation we have of each other is often made up of stereotypes, limited by the mass media or by superficial and simplified ideas.

Taking this into account, students and scholars who took part in the present project - initiated by the ‘International Undergraduate Programme’ (PLI – in Portuguese) whose purpose is the dynamic exchange between Brazilian universities and the University of Coimbra - realised the importance of this exchanging not only in academic level but also in social and cultural ones.

Then the Brazilian Cultural Week comes out, an interdisciplinary project, aiming to expose and clarify, through different academic levels: undergraduate, graduate students and scholars, the complex Brazilian culture and some of its social and artistic expressions.

Papers concerning Brazilian cultural themes will be presented throughout the week as well as free exhibitions and events, connecting the academic sphere and civil society.

After all, what is being Brazilian, who are the Brazilians?

Brazilian people are not identified by the face or appearance, but for its diversity, social origins and cultural renewal. Not by their physical traits, but for the varied customs and cultural expressions. There are no homogeneous definitions.

Speaking of Brazil is to speak in the plural.

Being it a continental country with remarkable characteristics in each region, is the reasons why the Brazilian Cultural Week – with the students from PLI, together with graduates and scholars - all from different regions and universities - come to show the rich variety of this great cultural mosaic that is Brazil.
